Under the direction of the Health/Nutrition Manager, the Health Assistant/LVN will assist in the administration and implementation of EHS health and nutrition program services to Early Head Start families. Provides oversight and direction to program staff to ensure quality services and integrated program systems.

Documents in all files on health status of child. (regular updates to weights and immunizations)
Engages in ongoing assessment of the quality of health and nutrition services provided in all Early Head Start program service options, e.g., center-based infant program, home visitor program for pregnant mothers and infiants.
Performs prenatal tracking to ensure pregnant mothers receive appropriate medical attention.
Conducts and documents observations of health-related services on all children within 45 days of enrollment.
Conducts periodic visits to monitor health related progress of infants and toddlers in home settings.
Conducts and documents monthly inspections of the child center and documents findings related to health and nutrition
Meets specific content area requirements pertaining to health, provide oversight to a contracted Registered Dietician for menu oversight. Implement all suggestions noted by dietician.
Advocates on behalf of patents to secure best medical treatment available for their family.
Notifies and documents in files all health-related concerns effecting the center and the community. Submits copies to the administrative assistant.
Links and documents families with an ongoing system of health care, assists parents in the selection of health providers, counsels them about child or family health problems and promotes parent involvement in all aspects of the health/nutrition program.
Ensure the active and essential coordination of health and nutrition services through the formation and maintenance of the EHS Health Service Advisory Committee.
Promotes health and safety practices in the program and coordinates safety and sanitation procedures, first aid, and emergency medical procedures.
Assists with planning program events and activities that inform parents, Volunteers of America staff and board, and community groups about Early Head Start Health and Nutrition services and practices.
Establishes procedures/protocol for EHS community regarding health and nutrition requirements.
Provides in-service training to parents and staff regarding health and nutrition theories and Consults regularly with parents and staff on health and nutrition activities, events and special service needs.
Communicates effectively with others, including giving and receiving feedback on the quality of services to Head Start Management Team, governing entities, Volunteers of America agency staff, collaborating partners and regulatory/funding agencies.
Supports Early Head Start philosophies, policies and goals and has a measurable impact on improving program quality and outcomes.
Maintains a professional development plan that will strengthen the knowledge and skills required for the position.
Maintains strict confidentiality at all times in communications.
Participates in coordinating the agency's annual self-assessment.
Adheres to EHS program operational policies and procedures.
Reports suspected child abuse to Program Manager.
Other duties as assigned.
Must be currently licensed by the State of California as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
Must demonstrate knowledge and ability to apply basic principles of nursing care.
Ability to successfully pass fingerprints and criminal investigation screening. Must meet have valid driver's license and must meet insurance guidelines established by the Corporation. CPR/First Aid certified. Ability to take a TB test and health screening. Ability to meet all pre-hiring requirements as defined by Title 22 and contract.
Must have ability to read, write and speak in English. Bilingual in Spanish helpful.
Must have the ability to read, comprehend, give and follow instructions.
Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Office.
